History and Significance of Herbal Incense in Spiritual Domain

The name incense is derived from a Latin verb ‘incendere’ which means ‘to burn.’ Herbal incense is a substance that has a mixture of herbs and spices. People with stress, anxiety and other mental issues use herbal incense in aromatherapy for mental and spiritual healing. Of all the methods of mood relaxant, herbal incense is the least expensive and most effective way to deal with any kind of stress and anxiety naturally. The use of herbal incense has been around for centuries. The first use of incense was by Fifth Dynasty in Egypt in 2345-2494 BC. The first crude form of incense was developed in ancient times; they had incense in its purest form. Our ancestors used herbal incense for the purpose of worship and spirituality. They used herbal incense mainly for religious purposes. In religious ceremonies to ward off evil or negativity, people smudge (burn) the herbs and resins such as tobacco, sage or cedar, etc. The remaining charred of these incense rubbed on the body to protect against evil spirits.

When we come to know that the significance of herbal incense is not only spiritual but also therapeutic and medicinal people began to use it in aromatherapy or just to provide a sweet smell to their homes to enhance the mood. The most useful and common types of incenses are amber, ginger, cedar wood, cinnamon, jasmine, frankincense, lavender, musk, myrrh, lotus, vanilla, opium, nag champa, sandalwood, patchouli and rose.

Significance of Herbal Incense in Spiritual Domain

The key to unlock the doors of spiritual realms is the use of herbal incense. The metaphysical properties of herbal incense though not scientifically proven but has satisfied many people from the beginning of history. For instance Lavender is used in spell work and ritual for serenity, protection and spiritual purification. As fragrance has proven to have great effects on emotional state and memory many practitioner believes that the incenses made from natural materials carries earthy energy of the plant that helps in purifying the spiritual domain of an individual.
